Take good care of your Tattoo. the final result also depends on you!
Congratulations, your tattoo is ready! Now, you’ll need to take good care of your skin over the next few days to ensure healthy healing and a perfect final result. Your body will naturally care for the wound, but there are things you can do to help (or harm) healing.
These tips are important both to avoid infection and to avoid losing tattoo pigmentation, as the ink is not yet 100% fixed in the skin.
• Avoid exposing the tattoo to the sun. Protect your skin with appropriate clothing, but only use sunscreen after 15 days.
• No river, sea, pool, etc. for 15 days.
• Avoid physical exercise that moves the tattooed area for 7 days (for example, if you got a tattoo on your arm, you can do leg exercises without any problems. But avoid excessive sweating).
• Pork, seafood, alcohol, sugar, fatty foods, processed meats, etc., are foods that, in excess, also hinder healing. But this varies from person to person. If you’re used to eating these types of foods, you probably won’t have any major problems. However, if possible, avoid excess for about 4 or 5 days.
• Don’t pick at the scabs that form during healing. Let them fall off on their own. The tattooed area will also be very itchy. But be patient and don’t scratch to avoid inflammation and fading.
• Avoid tight clothing to avoid friction between the fabric and the tattooed skin. Opt for looser, more breathable clothing.
1st day: Remove the plastic wrap from the tattoo with clean hands. Wash your skin gently with mild antibacterial soap and warm/cold water. Dry with a clean towel, patting rather than rubbing. If available, use a tattoo-specific healing ointment.
At night, if the tattoo is large, it will likely release ink while you sleep. So, protect your bedsheet or wrap your skin again with plastic wrap before sleeping (though ideally, you would let your skin breathe). If swelling or pain occurs, you can apply a cold compress for relief (don’t apply ice directly to the skin!).
2nd day: In the morning, wash your tattoo with mild soap and warm/cold water. In case you leave your house, protect your skin from the sun and avoid dirty environments. Cover the tatoo with appropriate clothing if it’s on an exposed area.
3rd~13th day: From now on, you should moisturize your tattoo if it’s already dry. Use neutral moisturizers, without too many additives, scents, etc. Vaseline or coconut oil can also be used, but if possible, use moisturizers specifically designed for tattoos. Moisturize the tattoo at least 2 or 3 times a day, but don’t apply too much. During this period, the famous scabs will appear on the tattoo, and afterward, the skin may peel. Remember not to pick at the scabs, but rather let them fall off on their own.
14th~30th day: Your tattoo’s superficial healing will be nearly complete. If it hasn’t completely peeled, continue moisturizing it for a few more days. However, ideally, you should keep your tattoo moisturized and protected from the sun for life to prevent fading. You can only return to your normal routine once the tattoo is completely healed.
